World Health Organisation

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialised agency of united nations whose primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system. Its predecessor, the Health Organisation, was an agency of the League of nations.
 ◆ ESTABLISHMENT :

The World Health Organization was established in 1948,
serving as the directing and coordinating authority for international health matters and public health.
The constitution of the World Health Organization was signed by all 51 countries of the United Nations, and by 10 other countries, on 22 July 1946. It thus became the first specialized agency of the United Nations to which every member subscribed. Its constitution formally came into force on the first World Health Day on 7 April 1948, when it was ratified by the 26th member state.


FUNCTION:

● Its initial priorities were malaria, tuberculosis, venereal disease and other communicable diseases, plus women and children’s health, nutrition and sanitation.

With changing scenario it's area expanded over all health issues and covered more area of health and wellness .
Their main areas of work are:
● health systems; 
●health through the life-course; ●noncommunicable and communicable diseases; preparedness, surveillance and response; and corporate services, etc.
●The WHO is responsible for the World Health Report ,the worldwide World Health Survey, and World Health Day. 
●It acts as a safeguard of all the worlds health issues .
●In terms of health services, WHO looks to improve "governance, financing, staffing and management" and the availability and quality of evidence and research to guide policy. 

HEADQUATER:

The headquarter of WHO is in Geneva, Switzerland.

MEMBERS :
The WHO has 194 member states: all of the Member States of the United Nations except for Liechtenstein, and the Cook Islands and Niue.

◆◆The current Director-General is Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who was appointed on 1 July 2017.(for 5 year term )
